Fructose-1, 6-diphosphate (FDP), a naturally occurring sugar-phosphate molecule, contains phosphate groups bonded to the No. 1 and No. 6 carbon atoms of the fructose molecule. The β-D-form of this compound is the only biological active isomer of fructose-1,6-diphosphate in cells. FDP acts as an intermediate during the series of reactions that make up glycolysis, and plays an important role in regulation of glycolysis.
